Spek is the Founder of PopArabia & ESMAA and the Executive Vice President, International & Emerging Markets at Reservoir. 
 
He began his professional career as a songwriter & recording artist in his native Canada. Initially as a member of Canadian hip hop crew Dream Warriors, a group that sold +1m records worldwide and later on his own. Spek has been a music supervisor on numerous feature film and television projects & worked closely and consulted for record labels, music publishers, collecting societies, government entities and the world’s leading audio and video platforms over a +25 year career, spanning North America, Europe and the Middle East.  
 
In 2011 he founded PopArabia; the leading music rights company & consultancy in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). PopArabia represents the world’s leading publishers including Sony Music Publishing, BMG Rights Management, Kobalt, Downtown, Peermusic, Concord Music, Roundhill Music, Reservoir and others in the MENA territories. PopArabia represents an approximate 60% marketshare of global music publishing repertoire in the MENA territories. 
 
In 2015 he relocated to NYC to lead creative strategy for Reservoir in the US. Over the subsequent 5 years Reservoir staffed and opened creative offices in Los Angeles and Nashville and signed and worked with a roster of hit songwriters and talent.  
 
By mid-2019 he relocated back to the UAE, to head PopArabia once again and lead international and emerging markets strategy for Reservoir, now partnered with PopArabia.  
 
In 2020 PopArabia subsidiary, ESMAA, was launched – the first rights management entity in the Gulf markets. Based out of Abu Dhabi ESMAA represents global rights holders including PRS for Music, SESAC, SOCAN, IMRO, AMRA, SACM, Harry Fox Agency, Chrysalis Records, Global Master Rights and numerous others to facilitate licensing in the Gulf region. 
 
PopArabia and ESMAA are part of the Abu Dhabi ‘City Of Music’ Partners Group, comprising government stakeholders, cultural institutions and businesses from the private sector supporting Abu Dhabi as a global center of music, to grow the music sector given its City Of Music designation by UNESCO in 2021.
